Michelle B

BABE VIBES is a bi-weekly interview series all about bad ass babes. Where I chat with millennial gals and guys who are (for the want of a better phrase) ‘killing it’ in their respective fields. Intimate questions, career questions, silly and fun questions. We delve deep and get to the nitty gritty. My hope is to offer insights into worlds we may not otherwise see and connect like minded souls with their kin.

Today we are chatting with the one of the most magical ladies out there on the internet. A bad ass babe behind a super inspiring youtube channel. None other, than Michelle. The gal behind MuchelleB

Let's begin with the most important question. What is your spirit animal?

Probably a lizard - or a cat. Any animal that likes lazing in the sun.

Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do.

I’m Michelle - I make youtube videos on living your life intentionally while working a full time job making online learning for a living.

How did you go about starting on youtube / finding your niche and voice?

I started on youtube trying to make it as a fashion youtuber - it was all I really knew and had seen others do, so I figured I’d follow that path. It didn’t take that long to realise that my heart wasn’t in it, but it took a while to actually decide to make a change and start making videos that I cared about.

What is your youtube career highlight so far?

I’m just starting in the youtube world really! My career highlight so far is probably hitting that elusive 100K. It was something that I’ve had in my head as a milestone for a long time, and reaching it was kind of an unreal moment. Aside from that, having the opportunity to collaborate with youtubers that I admire like Lavendaire, Sarah Nourse and Break the Twitch - it’s an awesome thing when you admire a youtuber for a long time and then have the chance to create alongside them.

What is the main message you try to convey through your videos?

Be intentional in the way that you live your life.

When you're not making videos what are you up to?

When I’m not making videos you’ll find me reading on my couch on a sunny afternoon, getting myself out and about in nature when I can and working at my full time job creating online learning for the corporate world.

How do you find balance in life and juggling all the things you do: like a full time job, creative pursuits and a social life?

I pay a whole lot of attention to how I’m feeling and what I’m thinking - and give myself as much rope as possible when life gets too much.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day in the week involves waking up at 5AM, working on whatever side project I have in my head for an hour or two, getting some exercise in if I can, getting my space clean and clear then heading off to my workplace where I create and consult around whatever project is on my plate.

What is the best way to start the day?

With sunshine and a stretch.

Beach or city?

Beach! Or - really, I’m more about that open field life.

You just brought a house! What is that like? And what are three tips to give people who also want to get on the property ladder?

Buying a house is more insane than you think it is! The process, I mean. The tips - save as much as you can for a deposit, be super selective about the real estate agent that you choose and in turn, make sure that the real estate agent that you choose is super selective about the tenants that will occupy your property if that's the path you're going down.

Why did you want to buy a house, rather than renting / flatting etc?

I like feeling 100% comfortable and free to do what I want when I want with my own space, and financially buying a home for myself made a ton of sense.

Whats the one thing you will always have on you (aside from your phone and wallet I guess)?

To be honest, the only things I keep in my bag are my phone, keys and wallet. Other than that, maybe my Australis lip velour in Paree - It’s my go to!

What keeps you up at night?

Not much. I sleep like a log as soon as my head hits the bed. Haha, no, but in all seriousness - if I’m inspired I’ll be up for hours thinking about the future things that I want to create and bits and pieces I want to do. More recently I've been reading when I get home from work, and it's been awesome - but it's also terrible because some books get me so pumped about life that I stay up for hours.

Tell us about a moment in your week where you felt on top of the world, and the boss of your own life; a babe vibe moment?

Just this morning I finally!! finished the draft of something that I’ve been working on for what feels like a good chunk of my life, so that felt freaking awesome.

If you were an accessory, what would you be?

According to a short quiz I just took, I’m a handbag - I can handle stress like a pro and am always there when I’m needed. A handbag is the only accessory I really use, so I dig it.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would that be?

I’d love to have dinner with Marie Forleo - ultimate boss babe.

What is your secret to success?

Lots of reflection and always looking forward :)

Whats the best piece of advice you've received?

You can’t live you whole life waiting for the next moment when ‘life will be better’. If you keep on waiting around for the thing that’s going to make you happy, you’ll never get there. Be happy with what you have in the here and now. - A colleague had this conversation with me, and even thought it’s advice I’ve read before, hearing it from someone that I know and see on a day to day basis made it far more impactful.

I am so excited to finally share this interview with you. When I read it in my email box, well over a month ago (i know. i'm sorry) I felt pretty inspired by Michelle's words. I hope you did too! Thanks Michelle for taking part. You can find her on her youtube here. And her insta here.
